PROP. 30: TAX ON RICH FOR MORE EVs FAILS
Voters rejected Proposition 30, a proposed tax for Californians with incomes above $2 million that would see funds put into the state's effort to have more electric cars on the road.
A state legislative analyst estimated the measure would raise up to $5 billion annually.
As of Wednesday afternoon, 59% of voters decided no on the measure, while 41% were in favor.
PADILLA MAKES HISTORY WITH REELECTION
Alex Padilla was elected to serve a full six-year term as the U.S. Senator representing California.
He is the first Latino to be elected to the U.S. Senate in California.
MARTINEZ HOLDS LARGE LEAD IN SHERIFF RACE
Undersheriff Kelly Martinez holds a sizable lead over former city prosecutor John Hemmerling in the race to replace retired Sheriff Bill Gore.
As of 8 a.m., Martinez leads Hemmerling 57%-43% in early returns.
LEVIN SPEAKS ON RACE FOR 49TH DISTRICT
Democratic Rep. Mike Levin, who is seeking reelection in the 49th District race, spoke to ABC 10News' Jared Aarons and Virginia Cha about the early returns following Election Day.
As of 7 a.m. Wednesday, Levin holds a 51%-49% lead over Republican challenger Brian Maryott.
The 49th Congressional District covers parts of north San Diego County and south Orange County.
SD COUNTY CANNABIS TAX MEASURE POISED TO PASS
Measure A, a proposal to impose a tax on medical and recreational cannabis businesses operating in San Diego County's unincorporated areas to raise money for government services such as health care, fire safety and parks, appeared heading for victory.
If passed, the measure will impose tax rates of 6% for retail outlets, 3% for distribution, 2% for testing, 3% -- or $10, which can be adjusted for inflation -- per canopy square foot for cultivation, and 4% for other businesses.
INITIAL RETURNS SHOW MCCANN LEADING CHULA VISTA MAYOR'S RACE
City Councilman John McCann took an early lead over Ammar Campa-Najjar in the race to be Chula Vista’s next mayor.
As of 7 a.m. Wednesday, McCann holds a 55%-45% lead over Campa Najjar.
CALIFORNIA PROP. 1: REPRODUCTIVE FREEDOM RIGHTS PASSES
California voters approved Proposition 1, a measure that would establish protection of reproductive and abortion rights in the state’s constitution.
The measure was a response to the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade earlier this year.
SPORTS GAMBLING MEASURES LOSE BIG
It was a big loss for two sports gambling measures on the California ballot.
Proposition 26, which would have allowed casinos and the state’s four horse tracks to offer sports betting in person, was defeated.
Proposition 27, a measure that would have online and mobile sports wagering in California, also came up short.

Democrat Juan Vargas wins reelection to U.S. House in California's 52nd Congressional District.
Democrat Sara Jacobs wins reelection to U.S. House in California's 51st Congressional District.
Californians on Tuesday voted to allow a law banning flavored tobacco products such as menthol cigarettes and strawberry gummy vaping juice to go into effect.
Democrat Gavin Newsom wins reelection for governor in California.
Democrat Alex Padilla wins reelection to U.S. Senate from California.
